Anxiety counselling in Loughborough. Talking helps.

Anxiety can show up in all kinds of ways. For some people it’s a constant hum of worry that never quite switches off. For others it comes in waves – sudden, overwhelming and hard to explain. Sometimes it stops you doing the things you want to do. Sometimes it just makes everything feel heavier than it should.

At Charnwood Counselling, we work with people experiencing anxiety every day. Whether you’ve lived with it for years or it’s crept up on you recently, our therapists offer a calm, non-judgmental space to explore what’s going on and to find a way through it.

Is therapy for me?

People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes there’s a clear issue, and other times it’s just a sense that something isn’t quite right. Here are some of the things we often hear:

  • I worry constantly, even about things I know aren’t a big deal
  • I feel on edge and I don’t really know why
  • I struggle to switch off or stop overthinking
  • I avoid situations because of how they make me feel
  • I get physical symptoms – racing heart, tight chest, trouble breathing
  • I find it hard to be present because my mind is always somewhere else
  • I lie awake at night with my thoughts
  • I feel like something bad is always about to happen
  • I’m exhausted from always being on alert
  • I worry about what other people think of me

How can therapy help?

Therapy offers a space to slow down, reflect, and work things through. Over time, it can help you to:

  • Understand what’s driving your anxiety
  • Recognise your patterns and triggers
  • Break the cycle of avoidance
  • Feel calmer and more in control
  • Challenge the thoughts that keep you stuck
  • Build confidence in situations that previously felt overwhelming
  • Sleep better and feel more rested
  • Be more present in your day-to-day life
  • Develop tools you can use long after therapy ends

We are located in the heart of Loughborough on the second floor of The Old Arts College above Public and Plants. Our cosy and inviting rooms, in one of the town’s most iconic buildings, are fully accessible and provide a beautiful backdrop to your therapy. There’s also some excellent coffee nearby should you wish to take time and reflect after your session.

We’re easily reachable by bus. Bus stop AA (Ashby Square) is right outside with regular buses from Leicester, Shepshed, Birstall, Rothley, Mountsorrel, Quorn and Ashby-de-la-Zouch. This stop is also served by local KinchBus services, including buses every 10 minutes from Loughborough Railway Station and Loughborough University. Skylink Derby/Leicester and buses to Nottingham also stop less than 5 minutes walk away on Derby Road and Baxter Gate.

There are a number of car parks within a couple of minutes walk. Sainsbury’s on Ashby Road offers up to 2 hours free parking, as does Regents Place Retail Park. Paid parking is also available at Packe Street and Granby Street car parks, whilst on-street parking is available in the surrounding area after 6pm.

Our counsellors

At Charnwood Counselling we want to ensure that you have the best possible experience of therapy and one that is right for you.

We have therapists with extensive experience supporting people with anxiety, including generalised anxiety, social anxiety, health anxiety, and panic. Our integrative approach means we work with you as an individual – not from a one-size-fits-all framework.

We assess the needs and preferences of our clients during our initial conversations to ensure you get the most from your time with us. Where appropriate, we may refer clients to other therapists who would be better suited to your needs.
