Grief
takes time.
Grief and bereavement counselling in Loughborough. Talking helps.
Grief is one of the most human experiences there is – and one of the loneliest. When we lose someone or something that mattered deeply to us, the world can feel completely different. The pressure to cope, to be strong, or to be ‘over it’ by now can make an already painful experience even harder.
At Charnwood Counselling, we offer a space where you don’t have to be fine. You can bring whatever grief looks like for you – the sadness, the anger, the guilt, the relief, the numbness or the complexity of it all – without judgement.

Is therapy for me?
People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes there’s a clear issue, and other times it’s just a sense that something isn’t quite right. Here are some of the things we often hear:
- I’m struggling to get through the day since losing someone
- I feel like nobody really understands what I’m going through
- I feel guilty about how I’m grieving or not grieving
- I’m angry, and I don’t know where to put it
- I’ve lost someone and it feels like my life has changed completely
- My grief feels complicated – it’s not straightforward loss
- I’m grieving the loss of a relationship, not a death
- I’ve lost a pregnancy or a child
- I feel like I should be over this by now
- I’m grieving something I never had – a parent, a childhood, a different life
Our spaces
We provide counselling and psychotherapy services in person in our Loughborough space and online for clients anywhere in the UK.
Charnwood Counselling at The Old Arts College, Loughborough
We are located in the heart of Loughborough on the second floor of The Old Arts College above Public and Plants. Our cosy and inviting rooms, in one of the town’s most iconic buildings, are fully accessible and provide a beautiful backdrop to your therapy. There’s also some excellent coffee nearby should you wish to take time and reflect after your session.

Visiting us by public transport
We’re easily reachable by bus. Bus stop AA (Ashby Square) is right outside with regular buses from Leicester, Shepshed, Birstall, Rothley, Mountsorrel, Quorn and Ashby-de-la-Zouch. This stop is also served by local KinchBus services, including buses every 10 minutes from Loughborough Railway Station and Loughborough University. Skylink Derby/Leicester and buses to Nottingham also stop less than 5 minutes walk away on Derby Road and Baxter Gate.
Visiting us by car
There are a number of car parks within a couple of minutes walk. Sainsbury’s on Ashby Road offers up to 2 hours free parking, as does Regents Place Retail Park. Paid parking is also available at Packe Street and Granby Street car parks, whilst on-street parking is available in the surrounding area after 6pm.
Our counsellors
At Charnwood Counselling we want to ensure that you have the best possible experience of therapy and one that is right for you.
We have therapists with experience in supporting people through all kinds of grief – bereavement, pregnancy loss, miscarriage, the loss of relationships and losses that others might not always acknowledge. We work with compassion, patience and without any fixed idea of how long grief should take.
We assess the needs and preferences of our clients during our initial conversations to ensure you get the most from your time with us. Where appropriate, we may refer clients to other therapists who would be better suited to your needs.
