Student life can be tough. Talking helps.

Being a student can be a difficult time in life to navigate.

Many students experience a huge amount of change. For most, it can be their first experience of living away from home, navigating new friendships and relationships, and finding their way independently.

At Charnwood Counselling, we have therapists who specialise in working with those studying at university, providing a safe and accessible space to explore personal, relational or academic concerns.

Pressures

Is therapy for me?

Students start therapy for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes there’s a clear issue, and other times it’s just a sense that something isn’t quite right. Here are some of the things we often hear:

  • Exam periods are so stressful and I get unwell
  • Perfectionism is getting in the way of my studies
  • I’m struggling to find my people
  • I’m finding it hard to balance everything
  • Nobody really knows how I feel
  • I feel like everyone else gets it and I don’t
  • I’m struggling with relationships
  • I’m burned out from being so busy
  • I can’t say no to social plans
  • I feel isolated
  • I find it hard to ask for help
  • I’m worried about what to do next after uni

How can therapy help?

Therapy offers a space to slow down, reflect, and work things through. Over time, it can help you to:

  • Feel more grounded and in control
  • Understand yourself more deeply
  • Make sense of your emotions
  • Break unhelpful patterns
  • Build self-worth and confidence
  • Set healthier boundaries
  • Improve your relationships
  • Navigate change with more ease
  • Process painful experiences
  • Connect with what really matters to you
  • Feel more present and alive
  • Develop compassion for yourself
  • Find clarity and direction
  • Make choices that align with who you are
