At Charnwood Counselling we want to ensure that you have the best possible experience of therapy and one that is right for you.

We assess the needs and preferences of our clients during our initial conversations to ensure you get the most from your time with us.

We have a resident counsellor, but sometimes where appropriate we may refer clients to other therapists who would be better suited to their needs.

At Charnwood Counselling we want to ensure that you have the best possible experience of therapy. Part of that is making sure your therapist is right for you.

We have a resident counsellor and we also work with a number of other counsellors and therapists. They all bring their own specialisms, skills and experiences, meaning we can find the best possible fit for you and your requirements.

Jo Wiseman Founder and Resident Psychotherapist – MBACP

I’m a warm, curious, and down-to-earth therapist offering a safe, supportive space to explore whatever brings you here.

Therapy with me isn’t always serious or analytical – it’s not about lying on a couch while I nod and take notes. I’m a real person, and I bring my whole self to the work. Sometimes we laugh. Sometimes we sit with something tender or painful. And sometimes we gently challenge the patterns that no longer serve you.

I work in a relational and integrative way, which means I tailor our sessions to your unique needs and experiences. Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply want to understand yourself more deeply, I’m here to support you through it.

I hold a BSc in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy, alongside many years of trauma-focused and human development training. My approach is grounded in empathy, presence, and deep respect for each person’s lived experience.

I offer a compassionate and non-judgmental space for people navigating complex or transitional life experiences. I have worked extensively with care-experienced people and individuals who have experienced homelessness, as well as those facing emotional challenges such as loss, identity shifts, or feeling disconnected from themselves.

I also have particular experience supporting women through significant life transitions including pregnancy, all stages of motherhood, menopause, relationship breakdown, infertility, miscarriage, and child-loss.

Sally Morrison Psychotherapist – UKCP

I’m a practicing therapist and yoga teacher, working with the mind, body and nervous system. Together we will explore what’s happening for you and agree what may be helpful. Here you can bring all parts of your life, the challenges and difficult feelings as well as the moments of energy and celebration. I bring my whole self in the hope that over time, you can too.

I work in a relational developmental way, which means I’m curious about your relationships as well as your history. I believe that nurturing, consistent, non-judgemental relationship is what humans need to grow and develop. So my first priority will be providing this for you.

I achieved my masters in Integrative Psychotherapy from the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute. I have worked with a wide variety of adults (18+) particularly around the issues of sexual abuse, trauma & dissociation, relationship difficulties, anxiety and low self-esteem. I also have extensive experience providing counselling and therapy for students.

I have seen clients build self-awareness, create healthy boundaries for themselves and feel more able to deal with life. It is the greatest privilege to see individuals become more whole and more ‘themselves’!

Sarah Holt Psychotherapist – MBACP

I offer a warm, compassionate, and non-judgemental space for you to explore whatever has brought you to therapy.

I know that reaching out for support can feel daunting and you might be unsure where to start, wondering whether your difficulties are ‘bad enough’, or feeling overwhelmed by reading countless therapist profiles. I’ve been there myself.

My approach is relational and integrative, meaning therapy is uniquely tailored to you, rather than fitting you into a rigid framework. My aim is to walk alongside you, not to direct or ‘fix’ you; offering openness, curiosity, gentle challenge, (and yes, even humour!) as we explore your past and present experiences together. I strive to create a collaborative space where you can bring all parts of yourself, and feel understood, believed and supported.

I bring an awareness of how our histories, identities, relationships, and environments shape who we are. I have experienced my own struggles with mental health and self-worth, finding healing through therapy, and believe those who have known pain can offer a particularly attuned and compassionate presence to others.

I have experience working with clients with a wide range of difficulties, including family issues and estrangement, autism and ADHD, depression and anxiety, trauma, abuse, suicidal thoughts, low self-esteem, gender identity, grief and loss, loneliness, workplace issues, and mental health diagnoses.

Jo Svec Psychotherapist – MBACP

Life is hard and emotions are difficult and no one should be expected to walk this all alone. With me as your counsellor you can always be sure that you are accepted as you arrive.

I respect your experience; with me, you can breathe free of judgment. This includes being a safe space for disabled, LGBT and neurodivergent clients. My stance is that of exploration and ultimately I am here to empower you to find the life you want.

I am trained in Person-Centred Therapy, meaning you as the whole person are the focus. Your story matters. You are not being reduced to symptoms and treatment. Things we feel come from somewhere and it’s the roots we will address through conversation as you process and feel. I can also work integratively; I know many tools to tailor the process to your specific needs I am also aware sometimes just talk isn’t enough and life needs action, so I also specialise in working on practical changes and can support you with achieving goals and finding concrete solutions together.

I can support you with low self-worth and shame, finding emotional clarity, managing anxiety and depression, building self-care and resilience, addressing difficult childhood, relationships, communication, stress management and many more – Because YOU are worth fighting for!

Finding the right therapist for you

Finding the right fit matters more than people often realise. A good therapeutic relationship isn’t just about qualifications, it’s about feeling comfortable enough to be honest and to do the work. That means the right match looks different for everyone.

It might be about finding someone with specific experience in areas like trauma, bereavement, or anxiety. It might be more about finding a therapist with certain tools that could help you. Practical things matter too, like finding sessions that work around your life, whether that’s evenings, weekdays, in person, or online.

At Charnwood Counselling, we take the time to understand what you’re looking for before you commit to anything. We want you to feel confident that you’re in the right place — and if we think someone else might suit you better, we’ll always say so.

Getting started is simple.

1 – Get in touch with us

Complete a booking form, drop us a message or give us a call. You can tell us a little about what’s brought you here and what you’re hoping for. There’s no pressure, and no commitment required at this stage.

2 – Attend a free assessment

We’ll get in touch to arrange a free initial 30 minute conversation, in person or online. This allows us to get a better sense of your needs, answer any questions you have, and make sure we can offer you the right support.

3 – Arrange your first session

Once we’ve matched you with an available therapist who fits your needs, they’ll contact you directly and arrange your first session.

Work with us

We’re actively looking to grow our network of therapists to help us to make counselling accessible to all – both for clients and for therapists.

Through the Charnwood Counselling Network, we want to enable counsellors to build their practice and concentrate on where they can have the biggest impact – making a difference; not worrying about where the next client is coming from.

We welcome and actively encourage therapists from all modalities – for us it’s more about finding the right person to support our clients.

If you’re interested in becoming part of the network, are a therapist qualified to at least Level 6 (BSc (hons), graduate diploma) in Psychotherapy or Counselling and are registered with UKCP, BACP or similar, then you can find out more and get in touch on our Charnwood Counselling Network page.
